South Korea is located in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula in East Asia, surrounded by sea on three sides. Korean is the main language, written using its own script, Hangul. Much of the country is mountainous, with the Taebaek range running along the east and plains spreading across the west and south. The four seasons are distinct, with hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters. Alongside contemporary culture such as K-pop and television dramas, its food culture, including kimchi, is widely known around the world.
