Spain is located on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe, facing both the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Spanish is the main language, with Catalan, Basque and others also spoken in certain regions. A vast central plateau known as the Meseta covers much of the interior, and the Pyrenees run along the northeast. The climate varies by region, mild along the Mediterranean coast and marked by greater seasonal contrasts inland. Spain is known worldwide for flamenco, the architecture of Gaudí, Mediterranean cuisine and its vibrant football culture.
