Indonesia is an archipelagic country stretching from Southeast Asia towards Oceania. Indonesian is the main language, with many regional languages also spoken. It consists of more than ten thousand islands, including well-known ones such as Java, Sumatra and Bali. Located near the equator, it has a tropical climate and many volcanoes. Textile techniques such as batik, and food cultures that differ from island to island, are widely known.
